Background/Aims: Idiopathic scoliosis is a type that does not find the exact cause, and if it can not be treated early, it can lead to severe deformity. Such anomalies may externally affect the visceral organs and respiration. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of Charleston orthoses, Bostone orthoses, and body jackets groups in 60 female students between 10 and 15 years of age with 15o¡40o Cobb¡¯s angle.
Methods: The Cobb¡¯s angle and vertebral length were measured pre - , post - , and 1 year after wearing, and the therapeutic effect of the orthosis was compared and analyzed.
Result: There was no significant difference between pre - and post - wearing (p£¾.05), but there was significant difference between Charleston orthosis and body jacket at 1 year after wearing (p£¼.05). In addition, there was a significant difference in Cobb¡¯s angle change with time in all groups. The length of vertebral column was significantly difference between pre - and post - wearing, pre - and 1 year after wearing (p£¼.05), but there was no significant difference between the groups (p£¾.05).
Conclusion: Therefore, the scoliosis braces are a very good treatment for adolescent students with idiopathic scoliosis.
